“Te Karanga ō Te Manu” Toi Matatuhi - Intaglio Print
Kia ora Whānau
This is my toi matatuhi (intaglio print) from a collection of artworks that personify the theme of Te Haerenga ō Te Manu. This piece depicts the connection of the call between the Karere (Marsh Crake), which traditionally was used by ancient Māori to predict good or bad luck. I was inspired by New Zealand artist Robin Slow, who portrays beautiful art in intriguing ways. Partaking in Contemporary Māori Art allows me to convey my feelings in a different form and develop newfound skills within Te Ao Māori.
