GirlBoss Activator winner

Congratulations to Year 9 student Anamaya Taylor who is one of eight trailblazing young women (aged 11 - 18) from across Aotearoa/New Zealand to win the 2020 GirlBoss Activator award.

The awards acknowledge young women who are standing up to gendered stereotypes in all industries, and are making the world a better place with their innovative business ventures.

What started as a frustration with buying fruit and vegetables that are never ready to eat prompted Anamaya’s Science project last year where she designed a machine to help.

The ‘Avocado Time Machine’ invention won best in fair at the NIWA Bay of Plenty Science and Technology fair and has led to her working with Kiwifruit giant Zespri to refine her invention.

Anamaya accepted her award at a special ceremony on 3 November in Auckland and has also received a cash grant to enable her to continue her important work.

We are certainly inspired by Anamaya to dream more, be more, learn more and do more. Watch Anamaya’s speech in the video gallery below.
