Outstanding results for TGC’s Junior Futsal Team

Ella Mitchell —

Tauranga Girls’ College’s Junior Futsal Team has had a whirlwind of a season, coming away with the Bay of Plenty College Junior Futsal Title.

The team, comprising eight Year 9 and 10 players, had a fantastic season, winning six of their seven games against other Bay of Plenty secondary schools. Although it was a tricky season due to COVID, the team was able to pull through, playing outstanding matches week after week. Despite a narrow loss to Mount Maunganui College Pink in their final match, TGC’s Junior Futsalers still managed to come out on top of their age group, a fantastic result for these dedicated young players.

Team manager Danelle Hills says, “futsal is a very fast paced game, it can be physical and taxing on the girls. They have all done so well.”

Remarkably, 2022 isn’t the first time these ākonga have taken out the title for Best Junior College Team. The team played together in 2021, claiming the Junior Title when some players were only in Year 8. With another season’s worth of training and team bonding only strengthening the team’s talent, it is no wonder that they were able to come away with the title for a second time.

With two wins under their belts, it will be exciting to see what the coming season brings for these talented players. Ka pai to all of these students, your TGC whānau is incredibly proud of you!
