TGC Rowing Success
On 13-14 March, our fabulous TGC rowers competed at the North Island Secondary Schools Champs 2022 (NISS) at Lake Karapiro. At this year's event, 52 schools from all over the North Island competed.
The TGC rowers have been training vigorously at the Tauranga Rowing club since September last year, so when the school rowing season rolled around in February, they were ready and raring to continue their training. A typical training week consists of four trainings, with both on the water and off the water cardio sessions - all aimed to prepare rowers physically, and strengthen their teamwork for the competitive nature of NISS.
The TGC Rowing Team, consisting of Amelia Ellis, Amy Everitt, Catherine McIver, Hannah Ross-Evans, Haylee Mora, Hayley Forlong, Lottie Hale-Short, Madie O'Brien, Maia Suttie, Melissa Lovell, Riley Andrew, Ruby Richardson and Zoe Hume, competed in nine different races across the two days. These races included: singles, doubles, quads, fours and octis.
A huge congratulations to the U15 coxed quad sculls team, Melissa Lovell, Hannah Ross-Evans, Amy Everitt, Maia Suttie and Riley Andrew (cox) who achieved an astounding 4th place overall in the U15 coxed quad sculls A final.
Even with the windy conditions on Sunday postponing the regatta, and the hot weather on Monday, our rowers did so well representing our kura. A huge well done to all who competed, especially those who competed in their first ever races at NISS this year!
