Art Gallery Trip

Learning Hub —

On Tuesday 1 June students from the Learning Hub took the Art Bus to the Art Gallery to see an exhibition by Christina Pataiali'i.

When we entered we saw a huge wall that Christina had painted using a cherry picker to get up high. She used earth colours and lots of shapes and patterns to fill the space. Christina used a range of equipment such as rollers, squeegees, brushes, scrapers and fabric pieces to create her design. After discussing her art work we moved into another room to walk over a rope display on the floor. This had been completed by artists and students in the community.

We finished by creating our very own fabric Christina Pataiali'i inspired art creation. We used tape to create patterns on the fabric then we used a range of colours and equipment to paint/sponge/draw over the tape. Once it had dried, we pulled off the tape and added designs with a pastel. Even though we had the same equipment and colours everyone created their own unique design.

We thanked the Art Gallery at the end for having us and gave them a card designed especially from the Learning Hub students.

When we returned to school the SPEC sensory group continued with the Christina Pataiali'i theme. We did a jigsaw to identify the shapes she uses, and pictures using pastels and paints custom mixed to match her colours. This is the display in our Hub. Please come in and see how we were inspired!
