Year 10 Ngā Toi Collaborative Whanaungatanga Design 2022 by Year 10 Ngā Toi

Our class was given the design brief to create a collaborative artwork based on the word, Whanaungatanga. Firstly we had to understand the meaning of Whanaungatanga. This is about forming and maintaining relationships and strengthening ties between whanāu, community, our kura, fellow students, and staff. This value is the essential glue that binds people together, providing the foundation for a sense of unity, belonging, and cohesion. Every whānau has whakapapa, beliefs, and stories that they share which help them make positive connections with other people and their environment.

We were each given one letter from the word “WHANAUNGATANGA” and had to combine this with Māori motif and pattern to create a unique font design.

We had two lessons to conceptualise, develop, and draw up a final design. Our designs were then put into a collaborative artwork.

This activity was a way to reintroduce us back into Ngā Toi class and work together to share ideas and create a class design.
