Tauranga Girls’ College swimmer Keira Allott has broken the national record for 1500m freestyle in the 16 year old age category with a time of 16.33.67 minutes - smashing the previous record of 16.53.19 minutes by a whopping 20 seconds.

From the 28-31 May, twelve of New Zealand’s top debating teams competed at the NZIER New Zealand Schools Debating Championships in Wellington. Representatives from ten regions battled it out at the lectern in hopes of making it to the grand final.

Subject Selection and Pathway Planning is an important aspect of the learning journey at Tauranga Girls’ College.

Congratulations to our Leader of Learning Mathematics Linda Boubee-Hill and Year 10 student Ella Hill who were part of the B Grade Women’s Squash team from Dame Susan Devoy Squash Centre who recently won the Bay of Plenty District Super Champs.

In the second week of the school holidays six international students flew to Wellington to experience some of the things the capital city has to offer visitors.

Vicky Klein Dos Santos Gaspar, who is studying Level 3 Cookery & Culinary Arts at Toi Ohomai, recently participated in the WINTEC Culinary Competition held in the last week of Term 2.

Gabe Adams and Olivia Simmonds received their Dale Carnegie Youth Programme graduation certificates alongside students from 11 schools across the Western Bay of Plenty last Thursday.

We had a number of our Performing Arts students compete in the Tauranga Performing Arts Festival over the July school holidays.

Ella Ryan, WTSL, a Year 12 student used the last week of Term 2 to sail for 10 days on the Spirit of Adventure.

Ten girls, five nights, a trip of a lifetime...

A number of our talented Dance students have recently received solo and troupe nominations in Dance to compete in the 2021 National Young Performer of the Year awards as part of the Performing Arts Competitions Association of NZ.

Congratulations to Year 12 students Grace Tak and Sarah Sumin Lee who both received National Young Performer of the Year nomination for Instrumental at the recent Tauranga Performing Arts Festival as part of the Performing Arts Competitions Association of NZ.

On Monday 2 August the TGC golf team played in the Eagles Secondary Schools Golf Tournament.

A number of our students have been competing for the BOP team at the 2021 NZ Gymnastics Championships.

Over the Holidays, I was given the opportunity to attend the Lead Scholarships Elite Women's invitational Basketball camp as part of the Year 13 team, after being scouted for the camp at the Under 19 Nationals that took place at North Harbour, Auckland in June.

We had 10 students represent us proudly at the NZSS Swimming Champs.

Emma Delo and Tamara Bedford roller skate competitively and this week has been spent in Wanganui at Nationals.

This event was held in the Mount Sports Centre on 24th-25th July.

Natalia Kilmister was part of a team of 7 who competed in the North Islands in Artistic swimming in Hamilton at the start of July. Her team finished an impressive 1st place. Well done Natalia!
