TGC — March 24, 2024
From 2024, all learners need to achieve a 20-credit co-requisite specific to these skills to be awarded any level of NCEA. The co-requisite is a one-off requirement.
These new Literacy and Numeracy standards will help ensure learners have the baseline skills recognised nationally. Literacy and Numeracy standards are a co-requisite of the NCEA qualification Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Year 10 students will participate in the first assessment event in May. This means they will sit an assessment in Reading, Writing, and Numeracy and can gain up to 20 NCEA credits. Students will prepare for these assessments during their English and Maths core learning time. They will also be strengthening their Numeracy and Literacy learning areas.
A selected group of year 11 and year 12 students yet to achieve the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Co-requisites will also be sitting these assessments during this period.
