Friday 2 July is the inaugural Tauranga Peninsula Kāhui Ako Teacher Only Day. This day will see all teaching and support staff from our 15 kura come together for a day of Networking, Sharing and Learning.

As a kura we value your support and the important role you play in the learning and education of your young person. Our expectations are that you can support us as we seek to ensure our learners are at school on time or if they are absent, that this absence is explained.

Tuesday 18 May is a Teacher Only day, and in addition to students not attending school, the school office is also closed on this day.

This year we have a Year 12 team entered into the National Young Enterprise competition.

Term 2 is set to be a busy term for our three school dance troupes who spent Term one learning and perfecting their choreography ready to take the stage.

On Tuesday 13 April we packed into the school vans and drove to Rotorua. In SPEC we are doing a module called 'Kiwi Icons' so we went to see the animals and native New Zealand trees that were there.

I was lucky enough to be chosen along with eight others to attend an IVS Training “Forklift driving” course at Classic Flyers.

This year some of our Senior Accounting classes have been given the opportunity to be involved in a pilot program where the company Sharesies are looking to get more students interested in investing. Students were given $80 each to invest in a portfolio of their choice and in return give Sharesies some feedback on their experience.

Many Tauranga Girls' College students enjoyed making Mothers’ Day Cards in the library the first week of Term Two.

Congratulations to Year 13 students Alysha and Grace Gill who received a Ministry of Education Gifted Learner award for Dance.

Last term the environmental committee started a gardening group. Our group consists of around 20 students, who meet up on Monday and Friday lunchtimes in the horticultural area beside J Block to do some gardening!

We held a trial Yoga class for anyone interested in giving Yoga a go this term. It was a lovely way to start the day.

On Saturday 1 May the New Zealand Secondary School Tumbling championships were held at the Mid Island Gymnastics Club in Rotorua.

During the Term 1 holidays, Tuinga Weti, Keisha Nicholas and myself attended a Cultural Camp that was held at Te Korapatu Marae in Te Kuiti. This opportunity was offered through the Gateway Programme and was brought to our attention by Ms Paki, Ms Wilson and Ms Stopford.

An excellent pre-season Basketball Tournament was held in Rotorua Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May. The tournament attracted entries from Rotorua, Hastings, Tauranga, New Plymouth and provided a great opportunity for TGC Prems and Juniors to get an indication of our present playing level and where we need to be, to contest the season ahead. Great to see both teams finish in top 4.
