Tikanga Whakanuia, Whakamana | Celebration, Acknowledgement, and Farewell.

Kia ora koutou, rau rangatira mā.

Recently The Council gathered in the spirit of Tikanga Whakanuia, Whakamana, to farewell and extend our gratitude to Dr Curtis Walker for his outstanding leadership as Tumuaki | Chair from 2019 to 2024. His contributions will leave a lasting legacy on our collective path forward. In this moment of transition, we were pleased to welcome Dr Rachelle Love as our incoming Tumuaki | Chair for 2024.

This significant gathering was a pioneering event for the Council, marking the first leadership transition celebrated with traditional Māori customs such as waiata, karakia, and the passing of a korowai. We're excited to step into our new beginnings with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to excellence.

Practising fee and disciplinary levy

We are very pleased to confirm that there will be no increase to the combined practising fee and disciplinary levy for the year commencing 1 July 2024. The Council was recently able to make the decision not increase to the combined practising fee and disciplinary levy after careful consideration of operational and strategic needs, as well as its financial position.

All of the Council’s other fees will also remain the same with two minor exceptions:

  • There will be a small adjustment in the fee for the assessment of international medical graduates for registration in a provisional vocational scope of practice to account for inflation.
  • A fee reduction for a Certificate of Professional status to reflect the reduced cost due to process automation.

The Council believes that the existing fees are appropriate, valid, and relevant. The adjustment in college advice fees is necessary to ensure that they accurately reflect the costs incurred by medical colleges in conducting assessments and providing advice to the Council.

The Council upholds transparency and fairness in its fee structure by employing an activity-based costing approach, which was thoroughly reviewed this year to ensure its effectiveness and equity.

He mihi mahana
