Mai i te Tumuaki

From the Chair | Service, care and contribution are foundational tenets of the medical profession. So it is with pleasure that we acknowledge the doctors celebrated in The King's Birthday and Coronation Honours List.

Tēnā koutou i runga i ngā ahuatanga o te wā.

It is with pleasure that we acknowledge the doctors celebrated in The King's Birthday and Coronation Honours List (published 5 June 2023), for their exceptional contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand through their leadership and commitment to medical practice.

Their dedication over many years to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities across the breadth of healthcare is an example to us all.  On behalf of Council – thank you. Ngā mihi whakanui ki a koutou mō ō koutou mahi nunui mō ngā iwi, mō ngā hāpori, mō ngā tāngata o te motu.

The following appointment was made to Queen's Service Medal.

Dr Handunnethi De Silva – QSM, Queen’s Service Medal, for services to health.

As a Council, we are dedicated to our core role and service of registering doctors and setting standards of practice for the medical profession. We know the many pressures that doctors are under, and are continuing to engage with the Ministry, Te Whatu Ora, Te Aka Whai Ora, and other key stakeholders on workforce issues.

In support of this work, it is fantastic to see important registration and workforce data that Medical Council collects being made much more visible and available through our website. We hope this will prove useful to a wide audience.

Nō reira, kia haere haumaru tonu koutou i ō koutou mahi, i ō koutou kāinga.

Kia manawanui
