Dr White Med 22/558P

In a decision released September 2023, the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal cancelled Dr Julian White, a vocationally registered General Practitioner, for family violence and dishonesty convictions, and failing to disclose necessary information on an Annual Practising Certificate (APC) application. Dr White’s registration had previously been cancelled by the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.

Following a hearing in February 2023, the Tribunal found Dr White guilty of professional conduct for convictions that were found to have both brought or were likely to bring discredit to the medical profession and reflected adversely on Dr White’s fitness to practise. The convictions related to a physical assault, misleading insurers, and dishonest conduct in relation to obtaining finance. The Tribunal held that Dr White was guilty under both ss 100(1)(b) and (c), despite the conduct not involving work-related offending.

Dr White was also found guilty in relation to his failure to declare relevant information on two APC applications. Dr White failed to disclose the fraud charges and the fact he was being investigated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA). The Tribunal considered that Dr White’s omissions had a bearing on both his fitness and competency to practise.

The Tribunal cancelled Dr White’s registration. It also ordered that Dr White be censured, have conditions imposed on his return to practice, and pay 30 per cent of the PCC’s and Tribunal’s costs.
