Contraptions that complicate simple tasks.
Rube Goldberg Machines - complex machines that complete a simple task- have been created by Kea mokopuna.
Kea classmates worked on their Rube Goldberg machine and what is a Rube Goldberg machine you may ask? It is a machine which seems complicated at first but will complete a simple task that any person can do.
When Kea mokopuna created their machines, it would often somehow fail. Each group required lots of time for trial and error, which gave them opportunities to strengthen their grit and tenacity. Frustratingly, mokopuna would have to reset the entire machine each time it failed. For some, this was over 40 times. Each time required a tweak to problem solve so the machine could function.
“It was really devastating for me when the oven door hit the floor loudly which made us think that we broke the oven door and floor.” - William, Kea.
After lots of trial and error, some of the Kea mokopuna had managed to create some sophisticated machines right before the final session ended. Tidying up was not much fun, but making the Rube Goldberg machines certainly was fun.
