Wellington History and More!

Kererū Students: Alexandra, Ben, Te Whaiao —

Wellington museum, holder of fascinating regional stories, was the scene for Kererū to explore local history.

Here is some of writing from three enthusiastic Kererū students from last term - Te Whaiao, Ben, and Alexandra:

"This term, Kererū have been learning about Wellington and its history. Last week, we visited the Wellington Museum. Some of us went on Tuesday the 16th of May, and the rest of us went on Wednesday the 17th. My favourite exhibit was the captain's cabin on Level 2. It had a velvet chair and the curtains were so soft!"

"This term in Kererū, we have been learning about three pūrākau (legends): The Taniwha of Wellington Harbour, The Taniwha of Porirua, and The story of how Kupe found New Zealand. We have been learning these legends to find out more about the story of Wellington. My favourite pūrākau is the story of the Taniwha of Porirua because I like birds and one of the main characters is an albatross!"

"On Monday afternoons, Kererū Year 3s and 4s are working on passion projects. This is our chance to learn about something that interests us which we wouldn't usually do at school. I am investigating Saturn with my friends, Emilie and Bailee. Other passion projects include animals, the Sun, and making a marble run!"
