The Importance of arriving on time for school

John Waller —

Punctuality supports a positive start to the school day and optimises learning opportunities for all students. We have noted that 18.5% (nearly 1 in 5) of our students have been late at least once since the start of the term.

Arriving at school on time is a valuable practice that supports students in settling into their learning environment calmly and preparing for the day's lessons. When a student arrives late, it can disrupt their own start to the day and also the learning of their classmates. Teachers often begin the day with important instructions, a review of previous learning, or the introduction of new concepts. Missing these initial moments can mean a student starts their day feeling unsettled or playing catch-up, which can affect their confidence and engagement in learning.

For the rest of the class, late arrivals can cause interruptions, drawing attention away from the teacher and the lesson. We encourage all families to prioritise punctuality as it reinforces the importance of routine, respect for others' learning time, and developing a sense of responsibility. These are all key aspects of our school dispositions, particularly Respect and Resilience.

We appreciate your support in ensuring your child arrives on time, ready to learn, every day.
