PROFESSOR BOOM SHOW AN EXPLOSIVE HIT!

Maria Kroonenberg —

Last Friday, students from Year 3 through to Year 6 were wowed by Professor Boom during his Imagination Experience show in the hall.

As part of our Term 3 school-wide concept Discovery, Professor Boom’s science extravaganza aims to plant the seed of curiosity and encourage interest in the sciences. Experiments included everything from steam, sound, and fire to foaming elephant toothpaste and giant explosions; and the excitement on everyone’s faces said it all. Here’s what just some students had to say:

I really enjoyed the show and I loved learning about all the cool experiments. I really liked how Professor Boom told us about what he was putting into the experiments, and how they worked. My favourite part was the big explosion at the end. Willow, Year 6

It was really exciting because he started his show with a bang, which hooked me in. I loved the foam explosion when he lit the foam in his hand. Julia, Year 5

I liked it when he exploded the balls outside because it gave off a cool sound as loud as a rifle. The balls went up when the liquid nitrogen reacted with the water. I’m excited about science this term. Matthew, Year 6

I liked it when he lit the bubbles on fire, then all the bubbles popped. It was hard to sit still because I was so excited. Airi, Year 3

I liked it when he made the cloud. It started off small, then went high. I was curious because I’ve not seen things like that before. I’ve always wanted to be a scientist but now I want to be one even more. Isabel, Year 6

Professor Boom was very entertaining. I liked the magnet experiment which showed that copper confuses the magnet. Serena, Year 5

I liked the part when Professor Boom put fire on the bubbles because it didn’t burn his hand, only the bubbles. It looked like a mushroom because of the air. I want to become a scientist now as it seems fun to attempt and fail at things and keep trying. George, Year 6

I liked Professor Boom because he shot all the colourful ping-pong balls into the crowd. I wanted to catch one too. Marcus, Year 5

I really liked it when he put all the ping-pong balls into the tube and shot them out to everyone; but I didn’t get one. He used a blower to do it. It was kind of funny. Andy, Year 4

I think it was cool because we were learning about science but having fun at the same time. My favourite experiment was the elephant toothpaste; it went up and then down. Eden, Year 6

I thought it was really cool and Professor Boom was amazing. He was really good at describing how the experiments worked. I liked the explosion outside where he blew the balls out of the bucket. Now I want to be a scientist even more. Niamh, Year 4

It was really fun seeing him teach us how to do experiments. I had so much fun. I loved all of them so much, he was really funny. My favourite part was the one where he made the fire with the sound that he called humps. Jordin, Year 6
