Be Term 4 Sun Smart

John Waller —

With the sunny season (hopefully) upon us, we would like to remind all our families the importance of sun protection for our students. Please remember to send your child to school with a hat every day in Term 4.

As we transition into the warmer months, it becomes crucial to safeguard our students from the harmful effects of excessive sun exposure. One such measure is sending your child to school with a hat.

New Zealand experiences high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially during the summer. A wide-brimmed hat can provide protection for your child's face, neck, and ears, reducing the risk of sunburn. Children's skin is more sensitive than adults', making them more vulnerable to sunburn. Hats not only protect from the sun but also offer a shade that keeps the head and face cooler during hot weather, reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

We encourage your child to wear a wide-brimmed, Three Kings hat. With so many children all wearing the same kind of hat can you also please write your child's name on the hat to avoid mix-ups or loss.

It is school policy for students to wear a hat during terms 1 and 4. If you have any questions or concerns about sun safety or hat guidelines, please feel free to contact your class teacher. We thank you for your continued support in providing the best care for your child.
