Porohita Hāngī

Jessica Lawrence —

What a fantastic day!

The Porohita team had their hāngī on Friday 28th July. Prior to the day the students made stuffing, prepared the vegetables and prepped the pit by moving rocks, baskets and sacks to where they needed to be. We also did lots o learning around Matariki and the traditions behind a hāngī.

It ended up being a great success and we couldn't have done it without all the fantastic parents and teachers.

A big thanks to Paul Thompson for being the hāngī lead, we really couldn't do it without you. Thanks to John Waller for picking up the wood and digger. Another extra mention to Francis Chan and Dave Wrightson for being with us from 5am on the Friday morning and helping every step of the way.

It was great to see everyone getting involved and trying the food from the hāngī, some for the first time.

We are looking forward to being able to have the sleepover in term 4 and will send more information out later this term.
