Personalised caps in Toki

Maria Kroonenberg —

In Term 4, Toki students were learning about the technology design process. After successfully making badges, we then put our new knowledge to use to create personalised cap designs. Custom Teez offered to bring in the equipment and the Toki team jumped at the opportunity. Here’s what some of the students said about the whole cap design process:

“It was fun making my cap design because we didn’t have to just copy and paste the image, we had to use the creative commons licence which mean we had to put in some of our own creativity” – Angus, Year 5

“I LOVED designing the caps because it was unique and a new opportunity. Making them was also fun to do but you have to follow the rules to have an awesome cap!” – Savanna, Year 6

“I loved making my cap because it was a chance to work on my creativity” – Leah, Year 5

“Making the cap designs was a really fun activity. We put our TKS learning dispositions to the test, especially resilience, when people had to keep redoing their design, like if the measurement was wrong or the colours too dark. Thank you Custom Teez for giving Toki the opportunity to make caps. We will treasure them forever” – Serena, Year 6

“I really like my design because it reminds me of where I am from and what my culture is” – Rosalind, Year 5

“I enjoyed designing and creating my cap. I was worried at first because I went through multiple designs that I thought were no good, but in the end I had great friends that helped me decide what design to choose” – Jessica, Year 6

“Making my cap design was one of my favourite things that we did this year because it was really fun and I got to explore making designs on Google Draw” – Myka, Year 5

“It was fun measuring my design and researching what type of design to do. The heat transfer process was cool, but you had to be careful not to touch it because it was 175 degrees. I would love to do it again” – Elsa, Year 6

“I thought the caps turned out better than I could have ever imagined because of all of the hard work that went into it. The process was fun. We had to make a design then think about the colours to use to make sure they would pop! Then we placed the hat of our choice on the press and pulled the lever down to transfer it on by heat. We repeated this process a couple of times and WALLAH! We made such amazing hats and had a great time making them.” – Elliot, Year 6
