Year 6 Camp

John Waller —

Some of our year 6 students wanted to share their thoughts about camp.

Last week we went to Kauaeranga Valley Camp. We slept in cabins and did lots of exciting activities. These included axe throwing, air rifles, archery, paintball, kayaking, go karts, BMX biking, waterslide and flying fox. Everyone enjoyed the amazing food, the fabulous weather and the awesome parent helpers. We finished camp with a swim at Onehunga pools. Keep reading to hear what some room 19 students remembered about the time.

Kayaking

“Look out Neeky” I cried as Mrs Blair advanced towards her kayak about to capsize her in the cold, deep, clear water of Kauaeranga Valley river. I entered the water occasionally tripping up on the immensely stony river bed. The sunlight was forcing its way through the trees above and shimmering on the water as the hKiwi activity group shrieked and laughed. Me and my kayak cut through the water like a knife slicing through a cucumber. I paddled towards people brandishing my paddle and began splashing my fellow classmates and of course the teachers.

Water slide

It was a Monday afternoon when the year 6s arrived at kauerange camp. The Kiwi group were the first to go down to the great long water slide. At the end of the water slide was a big puddle of Mudd. One by one the kids slid down.'' You can do it Sophia! It is so much fun!” called out Kiwi group.

Her heart started racing faster and faster as she watched the kids slipping and sliding down the water slide.

She took a deep breath and off she went. Sophia felt amazing that she didn't miss this opportunity.“ That

was so much fun. I want to do it again!” she laughed.

“Go, go, go!!!!!” Camp. Gymnasium. Cross Games. Horse Racing. Isla jumped onto the mat as I quickly sped away. Jarvis was on the other side of me, when a weight came crashing down and was pulling me to the floor.

I looked back wondering what was happening to see Jarvis stumbling around for the handle. “Great.” I said sullenly to myself and dashed away. Isla shrieked as I pushed and tripped other contestants from the rival teams. I accidentally banged Isla around the tire/donut thingy things.

Exhilaration pierced my heart like a machine gun that pierced flesh. I forcefully thrust my way through the sea of tripping kids. I flung the dragget over to the next kids in line, with Isla still on it , who were waiting like a crouching tiger to pounce. Isla stumbled blindly off the mat and was enveloped by her comrades who were running around like crazy.
