Te Tātua o Rakataura
A huge thank you to all who attended the unveiling of our Māori school name.
We welcomed guests Hare Paniora and Pouroto Ngaropo into the school on Wednesday the 17th March, to share the history and story of the school name. We are in the process of transcribing the story so look out for it early next term! We were very proud of our Kapa haka group who did an amazing job of welcoming our guests and supporting our speakers.
The sign that we unveiled will have the brass letters attached (delays in shipping meant these weren't there for the day) and it will be hung at the entrance to the Admin block under the current Three Kings School one. We are having a look at how the name could be incorporated into our current logo, look out for a survey on this.
We appreciate the support of our mana whenua committee at school, made up of teaching, leadership and support staff, and the commitment of our students in giving up their lunchtimes and before school to prepare. It was a fabulous way to commemorate a very special occasion. We have a couple of short videos of the boys haka but are looking to edit some of the longer video to include the full kapahaka group! We will include these in the next newsletter.
