Butterfly Garden
Our Year 2 learners take action
Earlier this year our Year 2 learners investigated Butterfly Gardens as part of their concept learning.
They examined the components, benefits, features and costing before creating an informative and convincing presentation for Miss Blair, Mr Waller and Mrs Eka to secure the funding to purchase a range of inviting flowers.
Last week, with the help of 2 willing parent helpers, their garden took shape. Be sure to pop past the garden above the hall to see it in all its glory. What an awesome example of our Three Kings learning model of investigate, analyse and take action!
Snippets from the presentation:
What is a butterfly garden?
•A butterfly garden creates a habitat for butterflies
•It gives butterflies a safe place to eat, rest and lay eggs
•The plants are specially chosen for butterflies to eat and rest on
•Butterflies can see the colour red, so they like flowers that are warm colours like bright red, orange and yellow
Why do we need a butterfly garden?
•So we can study them and learn about them
•More butterflies are dying so we need to give them a safe home
•It will bring in bees that will help pollinate the other gardens
•Butterflies and gardens are beautiful
•It will make everyone really happy!
How will we make a butterfly garden?
•All the Year 2s made up different project groups.
•Each group has a different role to play.
•The gardeners will plant everything. We will ask also ask for parent helpers.
•The decorations group are making decorations for the garden and the signs group is making signs.
