Tongan Language Week 🇹🇴

Bernice Mata'utia —

2nd September - 8th September - Tongan Language Week

Last week we celebrated Tongan Language Week at Three Kings School the theme for Tongan Language week was:

'Fakakoloa O Aotearoa Aki' A E Tauhi Fonua' A Tongan perspective of enriching Aotearoa, New Zealand.

There are 28 out of 537 students (5.2%) who identify themselves as part or full Tongan at Three Kings School. There are 59.8% of Tongan people living in Auckland. Well done to Mrs Wolfgramm who is Tongan and Mrs Taufehima, two of our Junior teachers who dressed up in the Tongan traditional wear. Mrs Taufehima is wearing the 'Ta'ovalau' a Tongan dress, with a mat wrapped around the waist. Mrs Wolfgramm is wearing the 'Kiekie' which is most commonly made from the pandanus tree and can be described as a belt with stands that hand down below the knee.

Malo Aupito and Thank you.
