An update from your Acting Principal
Our Bus Stop has moved so that we have a clear vision both ways when leaving our school grounds - Have you registered for the North Canterbury Kids Hunt and what a Cross Country event; here at Tihiraki North Loburn kura
Unfortunately, we are reminded that winter is on its way. Did you spot the snow dusting on Karetu this morning when driving to or from North Loburn?
The leaves have now fallen and are all along the ground and whilst they look beautiful in autumn on our trees, there is a lot of cleaning up afterwards. Our GTT team are on hand to help today. Thank you Kahikatea.
Bus Stop changes and parking
You may have noticed that our school bus is now parked directly outside of the front fence by our front gate. This supports a clear view when leaving our grounds from the carpark; including the roadside. We have 100m view both ways, and I feel much more comfortable with this.
I do want to reiterate that Road Safety is extremely important and we need to be just as vigilant in our rural areas. You should not be parked within 6 metres at the front or the rear of the bus when parked. We have used cones to mark this space off at the moment until the Council can mark new lines for our bus stop.
The old Bus Stop is still not a place to be parking or a pickup zone for your children. It is to be kept clear. I have also noted that there are cars that park on the yellow lines across the road from the school to pick up children at the end of the day. This is not a safe zone for children to cross; including the yellow lines meaning no parking and it should not be congested with cars on both sides of our road.
It is Road Safety Week from 15-21st May, if you want to find out more here is a link. http://www.roadsafetyweek.org.nz/
Cross Country
Thank you to Mrs Houston, our staff, our community and mums and dads and grandparents for your support. Mrs Houston has a passion for sport, being active, participating, and encouraging you to do your personal best and we were impressed at your resilience shown on the day. It was evident to see that you had all practised a lot over the last 5 to 6 weeks. Personally, I thought the event had a real 'country kids' feel to it and thank you for coming down to champion our tamariki.
Production
Our Production is coming up. You will hear more about this soon. I encourage you to book the dates in your calendar and when we're ready, we'll share about ticket sales and how to book. The dates are Wednesday 21st (1 pm & 6 pm) and Thursday 22nd June (6 pm).
North Canterbury Kids Hunt - 28th May
Have you registered for this? (to date we have about 25 of our families entered). There are some key people; including our H&S members working hard behind the scenes.
Our community value the Garden to Table Programme for our tamariki and this is our biggest fundraiser for the year to continue this support. Here is the link if you have not registered. Make sure you head over and sign up at https://nckidshunt.weebly.com/ and be in to win some amazing prizes. You don't actually have to hunt anything and you can still be in to win.
We have some outstanding prizes gifted from our amazing Signature and Major Spot Prize sponsors. Hot food, baked goods and entertainment. Remember to bring along cash on the day.
Thank you for al your support and time given to our kura. Our school also raised just over $200 for the Westpac Helicopter Rescue non-uniform day. This is just fantastic!
Finally, I just wanted to share that we have an incredible bike track that people can access on site at school anytime and our youth use this at the weekends and in the evenings; including our students. Unfortunately, we have noticed that some people have decided to rearrange and make this a track for older students and bigger bikes. Dirt has been dug out of the side of the mounds, jumps and bridges have been removed and it is looking quite sad.
This is going to need some repair before we are able to use this again and we have some unhappy children who just want to have this in order to use for our 'Wheelie Wednesday'. Our community has worked hard on this track and this is disappointing.
Remember to come and say hi and connect - thanks Mrs S (Trina)
