Neutral Buoyancy.
The state of neither floating nor sinking.
Totara students learnt all about neutral buoyancy last week. Their task: to make a plastic action figure (scuba diver) neutrally buoyant. This proved to be harder than it sounds. If the attached stones were too heavy their scuba diver sunk to the bottom of the bucket. Too much air in the balloon 'lungs' and their scuba diver remained floating. A lot of fun was had - but lots of frustration too!
