What a wonderful session Rimu had at Garden to Table! In the garden we harvested kai, feed the plants and found loads of slimy slugs. In our kitchen session the children prepared tzatziki, garlic and herb bread and delicious smoothies! Thanks to all our happy helpers.
Totara students have been delving into the past!

Last week our Enviroleader team took a bus trip to EcoSort to learn about what happens to our recycling. It was an amazing day where we learnt about the benefits of 'putting our waste in the right place'. The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was an amazing piece of machinery that had bouncing conveyor belts that used air compressors to sort cardboard, infra red laser beams to identify different types of plastic and electrified conveyors that made aluminium bounce like they were being tasered.
This week was Mānuka's time to shine at Garden to Table! What a wonderful time our superstars had in the garden as they harvested delicious fresh kai and toiled away at getting our gardens ready for winter. In the kitchen we learnt that nine hundred million dollars worth of fresh food is thrown away in New Zealand each year and bread is the most common item that finds it way to the bin. With this in mind, we prepared some yummy minestrone soup and some 'left over garlic bread' on the side. But hiding amongst a fun morning was some terrific moments of learning.
Rural schools can enjoy the benefits of the Fuel for Schools programme. We are currently at $856 not long until we reach $1000 and another gift package for our tamariki.
