Careers Update

TBHS —

Work opportunities We have been contacted with a number of promising part and full time job opportunities this term. If you are seeking after-school or full-time work then please read the notices or check the TBHS Careers Facebook page and ensure you act promptly.

Tertiary information

We have started the process of tertiary provider visits with both Otago Polytechnic and the University of Canterbury presenting to interested students in the last fortnight. These information sessions are designed to enable students to gather information to support decision making about their next steps. For upcoming presentations from Auckland and Otago Universities, please see the school notices or the Timaru Boys’ High School Careers Department Facebook page for details. These visits are most suited to Year 12 and Year 13 students, however if your son has a genuine interest, please ensure they gain permission from their class teacher before attending.

POWER Tools 2017

Following the success of our inaugural POWER tools programme in 2016 we will deliver the first POWER tools of 2017 to our Y12 students on Thursday the 6th April. Further information will be provided for Y12 students and their parents. Topics to be covered will include Money, Budgeting and Insurance, as well as practical tasks like ironing a shirt and changing a tyre. We will be making use of several external experts and I would like to recognise in advance the time being generously provided by Shane Dowling of Mainland Insurance and Don McFarlane of Timaru Budget Advisory Trust.

Careers Planning Support

If you wish to meet with Mr Poulter for support or guidance on your future plans please see Mrs Molyneux in the Careers front office to book a time. This is available for students of all year levels.
