Board Profile: Bernadine Reynolds
Chairperson Finance Committee
First up, my thank you for supporting Timaru Boys’ High School. As our mission states, we aim to make our young men aspirational, respectful and positive contributors to the community. Every student and staff member at TBHS deserves the opportunity and the environment to achieve their full potential, and as the healthiest schools have a vocal and supportive community, we welcome your input to help us achieve these goals.
I have been assigned the Chair Finance role, but I have an active interest in all aspects of the school along with my fellow board members. Having been a CEO of an Aged Care Facility, reporting to a Board on finance, operations, human relations and facilities management, I have been fortunate to gain plenty of experience in Governance and Management Reporting, working with some great Boards. I was also privileged to be on the Board at Timaru Girls’. Now, I am a Director in a local Accounting Practice along with my husband, Warren. Our youngest, of three children, is in Year 12. I am also involved with the PTA, a fun and hardworking group that provides a great opportunity to be involved in the school. And in my spare time, apart from an interest in the craft industry, I am studying for a second degree, this time a BA History.
Student Rolls are key to the school’s financial health and they are one of the driving areas of our funding and our curriculum. Similar to most schools, Timaru Boys’ runs on a very tight margin and we have to take a conservative approach to finances. It is not our duty as a board to rubber stamp processes, we are there to robustly discuss initiatives, draft budgets and monthly reporting, for which we are fortunate to have the assistance of our highly experienced Business Manager, Lyn Stewart. We thank you all for your support and for each and every part you have to play at Timaru Boys’ and look forward to the year ahead.
