TBHS vs OBHS

Gavin Miller —

Otago dominate annual exchange

The annual winter exchange with Otago Boys was held on June the 28th in Timaru in wintry conditions. Otago were clear cut winners overall but Timaru were able to record wins in two of the four first team matches.

The 1st X1 Football fixture also doubled as an important qualifier for the National tournament to be held later in the year. In what was a physical encounter Otago always held a slight edge to create the more clear-cut scoring chances against an at times anxious home side. This saw them ease out to an important 2-0 win. The junior match was another hard fought match that saw Otago take a 3-2 win.

The Senior Basketball game was a good quality, competitive match with Timaru pushing a strong Otago side throughout there 74-67 win. For TBHS point guard Kade McMillan controlled the offence well, while the athletic Michael Arinze rebounded and shot well. In the Junior match up Otago dominated throughout in their 89-39 victory.

The 1st XV recorded their first win over Otago Boys since 2009 with a 22-7 victory. A strong first half led to a 15-0 lead at the break. Some mixed option taking and mistakes saw a more urgent OBHS exert pressure throughout most of the 2nd half and draw back to 15-7 before prop Zach Parkin capped a fine performance with his 3rd try right on full-time. In the Colts match Otago were too strong in the first-half and raced out to a 30-0 lead. An improved 2nd half effort from TBHS saw a respectable final 30-12 scoreline.
