In order to succeed we need perseverance.

For the first time in a number of years, TBHS entered numerous students in the annual Sanford Science and Technology Fair held at the Caroline Bay Hall on 8 September.

On 12-13 September, thirteen Agricultural Science students went away to the Pareora River to carry out an investigation looking at the effect of agriculture on biodiversity and water quality. 

Sunday 11 September saw a number of talented TBHS musicians compete at the St Mary's Music Festival.

I see it as a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead the current Board in my role as Chairperson.

All Year 11, 12 and 13 Conferencing will take place on Friday 23 September, the last day of Term 3.

Year 11 Drama students successfully performed an excerpt from The Book of Fame under the direction of Old Boy Don McCully.

A PTA meeting is being held this Wednesday in the school staff room. 

A big thank you to the Timaru Branch of the Red Cross who donated $1,000 from their annual book sale to Timaru Boys' for the purchase of a defibrillator.

Timaru Girls’ High School hosted the 2016 Year 12 Timaru Global Challenges Science Quiz on 23 August, an event two TBHS teams entered. 

The PTA are now happy to receive donations of good quality uniforms. These can be delivered to the Student Office.  

Over the weekend of 16–18 September, twelve senior boys (two teams) participated in the HP48 Hour Film Festival with the goal of writing, shooting and editing a five minute movie within the 48 hour timeframe, using specific elements and genre.

Timaru Boys’ High School continues to host a growing number of International Students who become important members of our community, either as short term visitors or as students who remain here for up to five years to complete their secondary education.

The TBHS 1st XI Hockey team travelled to Wellington for the Rankin Cup/India Shield combined tournament this year.

The TBHS Year 9 and 10 basketball team gained 10th place at the recent Zone 4 Junior Secondary School’s Premiership held at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin with 21 boys’ teams from around the South Island competing.

Cameron and David Ellis competed in the National Secondary School Indoor Bowls Tournament held in Wellington, in both the singles and the pairs. 

This year we had five senior teams and four junior teams play in the Thursday night competition during Terms 2 and Term 3. 

The 2016 Rugby season was another good one for TBHS. The 1st XV had a great season, finishing 6th place in the very competitive UC Championship.

An enthusiastic group of students entered the Otago Science Quiz this year and three of them were very successful in attaining high placings.

On Friday 16 September, the Year 9 and 10 students along with Senior Music and Drama students, had the privilege of watching the Excel School of Performing Arts performance that promoted their upcoming concert. 

Timaru Boys’ and Timaru Girls’ performed for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience on Friday 9 September at the St Mary’s lunchtime concert.                     

Yet again, our annual TBHS Ball was a great success. 

Work is well underway for our major fundraiser, the annual Fireworks Bonanza, which will be held on Friday 4 November. Over $17,000 was distributed from last year’s fundraising venture and distributed to school departments.  Further information will be available at the beginning of Term 4.

The TBHS Pipe Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Rock Band (FitS) visited Oceanview Heights School, Gleniti School, Highfield School, and Bluestone School with a 50 minute concert of solo and ensemble items that had the young students conducting, dancing, “air guitaring”, and having-a-go on musical instruments.

We are delighted to be starting upgrades to the sick bay and front entrance of Gillies Block during the break.

Senior Music students and members of 'Fusion in the Sun' organised and promoted a live music event on 8 September with the generous support of the Timaru District Council Youth Entertainment fund. 

The Music and Drama departments hosted the Boys’ High Junior Social on Thursday 15 September.
