2019 brings new ventures, and new students and staff with talent to burn! These first few weeks are not only the time to settle back into the habits and routines for success, but for boys to clarify what their personal excellence should entail in 2019.

Friday 1st February saw our new staff and students warmly welcomed to the school with a very special powhiri.

Twenty five Peer Support leaders attended John Scott Lodge for a four day training camp at the end of their summer holidays.

The 2019 Academic Assembly was held on Wednesday 13 February where we celebrated the students who received Merit or Excellence Certificate Endorsements.

Parents are encouraged to attend next week's presentation by Nathan Wallis, to be held in Hogben Hall at 7:30pm on Monday 18 February.

Parents and students may have seen the Office of Film and Literature Classification’s NZ Youth and Porn research which was launched in December and explores young people’s use and experiences of online pornography.

The Board of Trustees welcomes new and returning families to Timaru Boys’ High School in what is by now proving to be an extremely busy year.

Congratulations to George Guerin who, not only came 2nd in the 15-18 years schoolboy section of the Coast to Coast, but finished 11th overall out of 258 competitors.

In April 2019, five Road Cyclists from Timaru Boys’ will be racing in The Tour of New Zealand, a seven day/eight stage international style bike race covering 600km.

Timaru Boys’, coached by Brian Smith and Jaimee Harrison, had an impressive medal haul, bringing home a Gold in the Boy’s Under 15 coxed quad sculls (Billy McCully, Will Davidson, Sam Wilson, William Talbot – coxed by Zack Wilson).

The Year 9 and 10 cricket side continued their progress in the National Junior Cricket Knockout Competition with a comprehensive win over Lincoln High School on the Rectory.

The traditional Inter-School with OBHS was played in very warm conditions in Timaru on 10-11 February.

Parents are encouraged to consider attending the return of the important feature film, CELIA ,that details the life and legacy of the late social advocate, Celia Lashlie.

Eniwa students in reciprocity will visit Timaru from 17 March (Sun) to 06 April (Sat).

Wednesday 13 February saw representatives from numerous sporting bodies from outside the school, visit for a lunchtime “Expo” of sporting opportunities within our community.

Congratulations to the following boys who swam an exceptional 1500m race.

Well done to Kaylum McAuley (Year 11) and Keaton Swindells (Year 13) who competed in two NZ National Speed Skating Events during the holidays, returning strong results.

Congratulations to Flynn Linton (Year 11) who has been selected in a New Zealand age group Ice Hockey Squad.

Congratulations to Lucas Mullings who has once again been selected in a New Zealand age group Softball side (the under 15's) to tour Australia.

Matthew Holwell (Year 11) and Jack Black (Year 10) have been selected in a New Zealand National Development Wrestling Squad to travel to Indianapolis in the United States during the Term 1 holidays.
