Life membership recognises a very special and sustained contribution to the Timaru High School Old Boys’ Association. In 2024 the honour of Life Membership was bestowed on two notable Old Boys’.
Gregor Macaulay [TBHS 1966-70]
Gregor has maintained his strong connection with the school since he graduated as Dux in 1970. He graduated with a double degree from Otago University and established a life long career in University administration.
His literary skills were harnessed when he was invited to write the 1980 “Centennial History of Timaru Boy’s’ High School’. He has produced two further school history publications.
There was a touch of the inevitable when he accepted the role as Old Boys’ editor of the Timaruvian. It remains one of the best annual Old Boys’ publications in NZ.
Retirement from the University has given Gregor scope to pursue his passion for Heraldry. Unsurprisingly he is editor of the Heraldry magazine.
With the TBHS 150th anniversary looming anticipate Gregor once again be contributing with his deep and insightful knowledge of his old school.
Dion Crooks [TBHS 1958-62]
Dion commenced his Timaru Boys’ High journey in the Prep School in 1957. He completed 5 years in the senior school before completing his Bachelor’s degree.
A career in journalism beckoned. Writing, editing and publishing became a lifelong involvement for Dion.
A loyal Cantabrian he has maintained strong links with the school down the years. The North Canterbury Branch of the Old Boys has been the beacon of the Association over the past several decades. Dion has engaged at all levels in the North Canterbury branch.
Whenever the TBHS 1st XV plays in Christchurch, Dion will there as a loyal supporter. Life membership recognises his special contribution.
