The future of NCEA has been announced. It comes from 2018 consultation when the ‘Great Opportunities’ were circulated about New Zealand for comment. Compared to what was being proposed then, we’re left with much less change than anticipated or, in many quarters, wanted. Common sense may have prevailed. The NCEA ‘Change Package’ shows reassertion of academic rigour and excellence, alongside better preparation for vocational success; however the devil is, as always, in the detail. We’ll watch this space.

The 2018 Teschemaker Cup was presented to Old Boy Neil Gudsell aka Mika Haka at last week's special Arts Assembly.

Eleven of our students participated in the Canterbury Cross Country Championships held on Tuesday 28 May.

This event returned to the new Nationals Course around Ashbury Park on May 23rd. The weather was fine and the fields were good sizes with around 30 athletes in each race and excellent representation from the different Aoraki schools.

Now that the winter is here, it is a great time to buy a new sports umbrella.

The TBHS PTA is seeking donations of second hand uniforms as a fundraiser for the PTA – a clean uniform with a bit of life left in it will be gratefully received!

Maree Hynes is kindly opening her home Harlau House to show it’s pre-renovation layout and will reopen it again when renovations are complete.

At times, students may be using their Electronic Devices in class to support their learning. This will always be at the discretion of the teacher.

Due to the planned teacher strikes, dates have now been changed for the upcoming Otago Boys' and John McGlashan Exchanges.

MoneyHub, a consumer finance website, has published a guide to hundreds of scholarships for any student planning to start university in 2020.

There will be no school for students on Friday 28 June.

Students should be issued their NSN cards for contacting NZQA by the end of this month.
