Friday 8 March 2019 was a time for celebrating as we officially opened the new $1.8 million Peter Lewis Wing accommodation block at Thomas House boarding Hostel.

Many schools around New Zealand involve students in the study skills programme Dare to Prepare which is designed to assist students to improve study techniques and enhance motivation and learning.

In an outstanding individual performance, Year 13 student Jack Sands won seven titles and eclipsed five records in this year’s TBHS Swimming Sports championship events.

Year 10 student Saxon McNoe was the star of the TBHS athletic sports held on 18-19 February at the Aorangi Stadium all-weather track.

Excitement is growing for the members of our TBHS Tour of New Zealand cycle team.

The Rite Journey programme is underway with over 130 boys across all Year 10 classes taking part.

On 23-24 February, the South Island Country and Town Swimming Championship took place in Blenheim. Timaru Boys’ High School had two swimmers attending this club event.

At the Jennian Homes New Zealand Track and Field Championships held in Christchurch March 8-10, George Guerin (Year 13) won his first New Zealand Title in the NZ MU20 3000m Steeplechase Gold in an impressive 9.38.36 - a 12 second PB.

Our Rowing boys continue to excel. All ten TBHS boys who attended the New Zealand Championships at Lake Ruataniwha in February, achieved a place in A finals in various events and performed very well overall.

TBHS had a memorable day at the Aoraki Athletics sports up at the stadium on Wednesday 13 March in warm, still conditions.

The South Island Tennis Championships were held in Timaru at the Trust Aoraki Centre from 1-3 March.

In near perfect rowing conditions, with 39 schools and over 1000 competitors, the Meridian South Island Secondary School Rowing Championships were held at Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel, at the weekend.

Timaru Boys’ High School Rowing produced another weekend of great results at the Canterbury Junior Secondary School Champs held at Lake Hood.

Timaru Boys' High 1st XI advanced to the next round of the National Knockout Gillette Cup cricket finals with a hard fought two wicket win over Ashburton College at Mountainview.

Well done to our TBHS Bowls team who participated in the recent Aoraki Bowling Championships.

The annual STAC Summer Exchange was played in challenging weather conditions in Christchurch over Sunday/Monday 24-25 February.

Our PTA will be holding its AGM on 20 March 2019 at 7:00pm in the school staffroom (off North Street entrance).

The traditional summer inter-school season concluded in warm conditions in Timaru on Monday 4 March.

The Year 12 Agricultural Science class has been busy planning a scientific investigation looking at the effects that physical factors have on brassica growth.

Our ANTS group had their first meeting last Thursday and heard from Ms Whytock about various competitions available and ways to keep themselves mentally fit.
