Our term is almost ‘all over bar the shouting’ (or singing in the case of inter - house competition this Friday). We have covered a lot of ground these last 10 weeks and seen the boys excel in different situations and settings (all shared on Facebook and in our newsletters).

TBHS students worked hard in preparation for the Southern Lights South Island Salon Culinaire national competition for cookery, bakery and front of house students, held at Ara Timaru Campus. 

As part of our Agricultural Science Achievement Standard 91292: 'Demonstrate Understanding of how Management Practices Influence Plant Growth and Development in NZ Commercial Production', Year 12 Agricultural Science students have to interview a professional in the plant production sector.

This term the Year 12 Outdoor Education class travelled down to Stewart Island for a four day tramp.

Good luck to Cameron Lyon and Jack Millar who are one of fourteen teams off to the Manawatu for the finals of the 2017 TeenAg Young Farmers Competition. 

Friday 30 June saw the Timaru Regional Finals of the Smokefree RockQuest 2017. Three bands from TBHS had made it through to the finals along with thirteen other bands from Opihi College, Roncalli College, Mount Hutt College and Geraldine High School.

Having won the local Schools’ Chamber Music Contest in Timaru, the combined Timaru Boys' and Timaru Girls’ quartet of Grace Beatson, Caleb Nicolson, Connor Rabbidge and Lucas Rabbidge competed in the Southern Regional Final in Christchurch where they competed against numerous groups of an extremely high calibre.

The Timaru Boys’/Girls’ High School 10 week Aviation Course students received their last flight briefing of the term from instructor Chris.

During Arts Week the school held its inaugural photo competition for students (and staff!) as well as workshops and a field trip to Camp Iona in Herbert Forest.

On Sunday morning the TBHS Environmental Committee walked either side of Saltwater Creek towards the beach and then onto the beach at the mouth of Saltwater Creek and picked up all the rubbish they could find along the way. 

The recently held Plunket Art Exhibition at Aigantighe Art Gallery saw schools around the district approached, seeking out skilled student artists to help celebrate 40 years of Plunket and to raise funds for their organisation.

The Y12 Peer Reading Programme is well underway at both Bluestone Primary School and here at Timaru Boys'.

Our annual Thomas House Parents’ Dinner was held in the dining room at Thomas House on Friday 30 June.

Timaru Boys’ High School has been contacted by a Japanese High School who is seeking a sister-school relationship in New Zealand.

Timaru Boys' is seeking volunteers to help us out by being a reader/writer for Senior Exams to help boys who need support to complete assessment tasks. 

Congratulations to Cam Anderson, goal scoring extraordinaire, who has been outstanding in the South Canterbury men's football league this year. As reported in the Timaru Herald recently: “the 17-year-old Timaru Boys' High School striker has been setting the South Canterbury Football men's division one league alight with some superb play, forcing opposition teams to change their defence patterns to try and keep him under control. Anderson is well clear in the race to claim the golden boot and has been the most dominant player in the competition this season”.  

Congratulations to Caleb Anngow who has been selected for the NZ Secondary Schools Indoor Bowls Competition to be held in August, in Wellington.

Timaru Boys’ High School struggled in cold conditions in their annual winter exchange with Otago Boys’.

The School Library would like to build a collection of board games for students to use.

The PTA will now only be selling school uniform items that have been donated, with the exception of school blazers and jackets.

The TBHS Annual School Ball will be held on Friday 1 September.

Organise a team and come along and support Mitchell Skudder-Dey and Cam Anderson in their fundraising venture for a trip to Northern Ireland.

The TBHS swim team is travelling to Hamilton for the 2017 National Swimming Championship in September and is raising funds to assist with the associated costs.

This competition is being run by the school Environmental Group
