Chamber Music Success

On 12 June, The Flying Shoes Quartet consisting of Caleb Nicolson, Lucas Rabbidge, Connor Rabbidge and Grace Beatson competed in the South Canterbury Chamber Music competition held at Craighead Diocesan School.
They
entered an original composition 'A
Soldiers Journey' written by Grace Beatson from Timaru Girls’ High School.
The group were awarded the KBB Brass Award, the Original Composition Award, the
New Zealand Work Award and were the Overall winners, receiving entry into the
South Island Chamber Music Competition and over $700 prize money.
Congratulations to Caleb, Lucas, Connor and Grace - good luck at the South Island
Competition on 24 June in Christchurch!

SGCNZ/Morrison Music Trust Shakespeare Music Composition Competition

Congratulations to Zak Konings for a well-earned 3rd placing in the above national music competition, a placing accompanied by a $200 prize.
Over Queen’s Birthday weekend, Zak flew up to Wellington to attend the awards ceremony for the SGCNZ Competitions
which included the following sections: Costume Design, Static Image, Essay and Music Composition. With two Music Composition categories - Music for use in a Shakespeare Play, and
Music inspired by a Shakespeare Play -
Zak wrote his piece of music, entitled Banquo's Lament for
use in the Scottish Play - Macbeth.
Zak was awarded 3rd place in this national competition and received a prize of
$200. Congratulations to Zak and we wish you all the best in your future
compositions.
