The Rite Journey at Timaru Boys’ High School continues to offer all Year 10 boys significant support and guidance as students transition from juniors to seniors in a time of their life that can pose difficult challenges. 

Since our previous Newsletter, Jesse Drake has been awarded Dux and Alex Duthie Proxime Accessit for 2015 at Senior Prizegiving; two marvellous accomplishments.

An eagerly anticipated annual event on the Year 10 Foods calendar is the Asian food cooking competition which tests the boys’ skill levels and creativity.

A new PE uniform is to be introduced to Timaru Boys’ High School in 2016 along with a new school jacket.

Congratulations to the following boys who won awards in their respective sections at the recent Aoraki Secondary Schools Sports awards.

Saturday 19 September saw eight of our students head out to Raincliff to compete in both Cross Country and Downhill sections of the Aoraki Mountain Biking Championships. Hayden Jefferson came 2nd in the U15 cross country race and Sam Ritchie 4th on a demanding and fast paced course with lots of mud and slippery climbs.

Wanted: Second hand sports gear or outdoor gear for a Monster Second Hand Sports Gear Sale that the Timaru Boys’ High School PTA are planning on running early in 2016.

Year 13 students who plan on tertiary study next year are strongly encouraged to apply for their Student Allowance or Loan by 16 December.

The English Department is requiring assistance from the parent body to help with the covering of books.

This year we are allowing the boys to borrow library books over the summer holidays to encourage their reading and help prepare them for next year.

Au Revoir and Bon Voyage to Ryan Davis, Jason Hodgett, Thomas Bell, James Bell, Bailey Whitnack and Libby Melhopt who will be spending their summer break in the south of France in Montpellier on the senior French exchange.

Over time we have seen an increasing number of students who struggle to arrive at school on time. In response to this, the PB4L Committee has been trialling a new initiative with the juniors this term called the Early Bird System.

A huge thank you is extended to the school community for the support given to the PTA for their 8th Annual Fireworks Bonanza and Gala Night.

Students in 9BA will visit the South Canterbury Museum in December to attend a special presentation by historian and collector Malcolm Brady on the contribution animals have made in major conflicts around the world.
