Careers Department End-of-Year Tips

Jo Shaw —

The Careers Department is available right up till the end of the school year for help and advice, so pop in and see us!

StudyLink

Remember Student Loan & Allowance applications close on the 16th of December, so visit https://www.studylink.govt.nz/ to get started. Most students will qualify for “Fees Free” (course fees only) for the first year of study and you can visit https://www.feesfree.govt.nz/ to see if you are eligible.

CV’s, Cover Letters & Interviews

I have created a folder of basic CV & Cover Letter Templates for students to use, but you just need to make a copy of your chosen template, so you can edit it. I am happy for students to share their draft CVs and Cover Letters with me, so I can give them feedback & help edit them. I am also happy to do Mock Interviews with students to help prepare them before an actual job interview.

Summer Work Opportunities

A number of businesses hire school students over the summer holidays and we add any positions we are notified about to the TGHS Careers Website. Please keep looking at the website regularly for any opportunities.
