Netball Talent at TGHS

Mrs Emma Hough —

We have many talented netball players representing us this year.

Recently we had three of our 10A netball players represent Netball South Canterbury in the U16 representative team. Tearia Mana, Arabella Shelton and Amelia Geary all took to the court during a representative tournament held here in Timaru. Well done girls on your selection.

A big congratulations also to Megan Rawlins who was selected into the Netball South Canterbury U18 representative team this season. They are competing in the Netball NZ U18 Age Group Champs in Rotorua during the next school holidays. Good luck Megan!

We had our 10A, 9A and 9B teams recently compete in the Roncalli Junior Development Tournament. Despite freezing weather conditions, all teams played very well! Thank you to our umpires for volunteering on the day - Mikaela Drummond, Nerissa Fitzgerald and Christine Hull. Our 10A team had great wins against Craighead and Ashburton College to finish 4th in their grade. Our 9A team had two wins and a draw to finish 3rd in their grade. Our 9B team had three awesome wins against Roncalli, Ashburton College and Waitaki Girls’ and drew with both Craighead and St Hilda’s to finish 2nd in their grade. This was a great opportunity for our junior netball players to play different teams from other schools and even from the Otago region. The tournament was great preparation for our 9A and 10A teams who are heading away to the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships in Christchurch during the July school holidays. All the best girls for this tournament - we know you will represent us well!

The 9A and 10A players have been busy fundraising for this tournament before they head away. Thank you to all of those who have supported their team fundraisers and bought raffle tickets, chocolates or toilet paper! They also ran a sausage sizzle up at Netball South Canterbury. A big thank you to Fonterra for helping us during that fundraiser - we really appreciate it!
