Careers Department News

Jo Shaw —

The school has been a hive of activity since returning from lockdown with students exploring future study and/or employment opportunities, completing work experience, applying for tertiary scholarships & much more.

Course Selection

The Year 9-12 students are in the process of selecting their 2022 subjects. I have put together a Slideshow that has links to further resources that students and/or whanau might like to explore further. This includes information on future career pathways, entry requirements and recommended school subjects. 2022 Course Selection Guide

Tertiary

Scholarships: There are still some scholarships open and I do encourage Year 13 students to apply for these if they fit the criteria. Keep an eye on the following spreadsheet as we are regularly updating it when new scholarships come in: Scholarships

Student Loans & Allowance: Any student going on to tertiary study next year should visit Studylink - StudyLink to see if they qualify for a student loan or allowance. The deadline for 2022 applications is December 16th. It can be quite a lengthy & sometimes confusing process, so I do urge students to get started as soon as possible.

Corporate HQ

We are very fortunate to have Anna Bolland & Tenika Reihana from Corporate HQ facilitating three workshops with our Gateway & Pathways students. The first workshop focused on developing self-awareness, conscious vs sub-conscious thinking & living your life with purpose & intent. The second workshop focused on developing personal brands, creating change & developing healthy habits. We are looking forward to the final workshop next term!

Thank you

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Kerin Crozier, our Careers Administrator. Mrs Crozier left Timaru Girls’ at the end of Term 4 after 14 years in the Careers Admin & Accounts roles. She has a wealth of knowledge, experience, expertise and she has been a fantastic support to me since I started as Careers Adviser. We will miss you dearly Kerin & thank you for all your hard work & dedication to Timaru Girls’. Best wishes for your new role & any other future endeavours that come your way!
