NEW STAFF AT TGHS

TGHS —

A HUGE WELCOME to the new staff who have joined us this year. We know you will love being a part of our very special TGHS school community.

MRS JO SHAW - Careers Adviser

I was born & raised in South Canterbury, before moving to Christchurch to study a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree majoring in History at the University of Canterbury.

I started my teaching career at Linwood College, followed by a stint at Antwerp International School, and then a part time role at St Andrew's College.

I was Careers Adviser at Opihi College for the last four years.

I am also President of the South Canterbury CATE (Careers & Transition Educators) branch and a member of the CATE National Executive.

My Husband Hayden is Deputy Principal at Pleasant Point Primary School and we have three children Ollie (9), Zoe (7) & Noah (5).

I enjoy keeping fit through running and mountain biking and love weekend adventures up in the hills.

  MR NANS DRIVIERE -French Teacher

Kia ora, bonjour!

I am Mr Drivière, the new French teacher at TGHS. I was born on the outskirt of Paris and was educated in the French capital.

I studied to teach French as a foreign language and did my Bachelor’s Degree at La Sorbonne, one of the oldest universities in Europe!

While studying, I applied to an internship in Christchurch and quickly fell in love with the city, the country and its people, hence my decision to stay in Aotearoa.

I have always wanted to follow my parents’ path and last year I decided to change career and train to teach in a New Zealand school.

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I joined the vibrant community of Timaru and TGHS.

On a personal note, I do enjoy outdoor sports but particularly rugby and badminton.

À bientôt!

MR CLINTON DAVIS - Caretaker

Hi! I'm Clinton Davis, new caretaker working alongside Murray Davies.

I'm a born and bred Aucklander and I moved to Timaru four years ago, with my family, for the lifestyle.

I am a carpenter by trade having done my apprenticeship with the Railways over 40 years ago. I've spent most of my working life in the building and construction industry.

In my younger days I was surfie. Now I stick to riding my motorbike round the South Canterbury roads and I play a bit of guitar.

Ms Sagarika Sahana - English and Social Studies Teacher

I am from India and have lived in New Zealand for over two years now. Recently I have joined as a teacher of English and Social Studies in TGHS.

By nature I am extremely optimistic and try to see goodness all around me. My motto is to learn, laugh and love while traversing the journey of life. I have studied Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor in Education and during my career have donned the roles of teacher, writer and editor.

I have a wonderful family which comprises a supportive husband and an amazing daughter who is a university student in Christchurch. We love New Zealand which is our home now.

I am grateful to the TGHS  team for making me feel so welcome. I am proud to be part of such a great team!

I am very pleased to have returned to Timaru, a secondary school environment and the opportunity to influence the lives of some of our young people.

As a mother of 3, grandmother of 2 and as a past teacher, counsellor, principal, mediator and advocate I expect to create a positive, respectful atmosphere where education thrives and wellbeing is assured.

We will need to develop and improve on some of the current systems, so I ask for your patience as I learn, reflect and we as a team implement.

I have an open door policy, enjoy constructive feedback, suggestions and strategizing, so encourage you to communicate with me.

I will be keeping you updated and asking for your comment as we work through our changes and improvements in the near future.
