Positive Behaviour for Learning PB4L

Mary-Ellen Luyten —

Timaru Girls’ High School has recently signed up to the Ministry of Education - Positive Behaviour for Learning Schoolwide (PB4L) initiative.

This is an evidence-based framework using perspectives from both individuals and the whole school community to create a ‘culture where positive behaviour and learning becomes a way of life.’ We have a lot of great stuff already happening in our school, which we will, of course, keep doing! This PB4L framework involves having robust discussions with students and teachers about what we do in school, and why we do it, and using this information to create a united approach in promoting a positive culture and environment in our school. A PB4L team of eight staff has been established and they have already attended initial training sessions run by the Ministry of Education. There are more training sessions scheduled throughout the year. A current key task for the team, along with consultation with members of our school community, is creating a vision and a set of core values that will be the pillar for this initiative - so watch this space!
