Our Pasifika group was kindly invited by Amy Dunbar of South school and Sandra Malama of the Tongan Society South Canterbury to perform at the Primary Schools’ Pasifika Day. Our Pasifika students enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their Pasifika backgrounds by performing a Samoan and Tongan dance. It was an enjoyable day with presentations of dances from many different Pacific Islands along with arts, games, language and most importantly, food. Shammah Ncube also presented a dance from her African background which was enjoyed by all. This is the second year we have been invited to perform at this wonderful event and we know that it will only continue to grow.

Also, this term some of the girls attended a Fono in Oamaru run by the Ministry of Pacific Peoples sharing insight and feedback on the Pacific Aotearoa Lalanga Fou report, the goals that have come from it a good start in creating a shared vision for our Pacific peoples.

We also look forward to celebrating Samoan Language week this term 26th May - 1st June with the theme - ‘Lalaga le si’osi’omaga mo se lumana’i manuia’ - ‘Weave an environment for a better future’.
