Junior Netball teams compete at Development Tournament
Junior Netball teams battled wintery conditions in Development Tournament.
On Sunday the 19th of June our 9A, 9B, 10A and 10B Netball teams all competed in a Junior Development Tournament.
This is run every year by Roncalli College as a fundraiser for their Senior A team.
All teams battled well under wet and freezing weather conditions.
We were also up against some very strong teams from Dunedin.
All of our girls represented our school well and enjoyed the experience of playing different teams from outside our region.
The 9B team struggled against very strong and competitive teams from St. Kevin’s and St. Hilda’s and finished in 7th place.
The 9A team finished in 6th place after a close game against Roncalli and losses to Craighead and St. Hilda’s. The girls had a bonus of being umpired by ex-Silver Fern Belinda Colling, who had travelled with the St. Hilda’s team. Although, I think this was more exciting for the parents who remembered her better!
The 10A team lost against a very strong Ashburton College team and had a close tussle with Craighead 10A. They secured great wins against Columba College, Geraldine and Craighead 10B to eventually finish in 5th place.
The 10B team had a big win over St. Kevin’s and beat Craighead 10B1 to secure a place in the final. After putting up a great fight against a tough St. Hilda’s side, they finished in a very impressive 2nd place.
Thank you to all the coaches, managers and parents for supporting our girls on a very wintery day.
Thank you also to Annie Shearer, Amelia Geary, Mikaela Drummond and Maria Bennett-Harford who were our umpires on the day.
