Football First XI Season Kick Off

Mr Cameron Lines —

Upholding What It Means to be A ‘Girls' High Girl’.

After a rather unsettled start to the season, the Football team began their training after school on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.

Even with a shortened season (due to Covid-19) the team started training with a camaraderie and positivity which gave the process, tumultuous as it was post lockdown, such a boost. With a slew of new blood from enthusiastic juniors being led by seniors with several seasons under their belt, the team quickly got back into a respectable rhythm.

With the assistance of the coach Sara Lister, who has given her time so willingly to Timaru Girls’ High School, the team have worked hard to improve from previous seasons and as a result drew their first game of the season against host team St Kevin’s on Thursday with final score of one all with some excellent football being played on both sides. The team showed real sportsmanship and represented the school honourably all afternoon.

As we move into the season proper, short though it may be, the girls of the 2020 First XI are in a very good place to make themselves known as a formidable team in the competition.

I would also like to extend my thanks to Barry Heney for his donation of the field lining equipment and for the amount of time and effort you have done for the Football Girls of TGHS. We are eternally grateful for everything you have done for the betterment of the sport here at Girls’ High and every win we get is dedicated to you for you continued support. Without all you have done for us, we wouldn’t have the legacy to live up to.
