Welcome to 2023

Ms Hales Principal —

The first 5 weeks of our school year have been vibrant, with lots happening.

Classes are well and truly underway, and various musical groups, sports teams, committees, clubs and homework groups have been signed up for by the girls.

Our swimming and athletic sports were both fantastic days with Rātā taking out the honours in the swimming, and Kōwhai claiming the top spot in the athletics. Our champions will be acknowledged at our Distinctions assembly near the end of the term.

It was wonderful to acknowledge in recent assemblies, the achievements of our students who gained NCEA Merit and Excellence endorsements last year.

Class field trips are starting to take place now too. We had our Year 12 Outdoor Ed class out or a paddle boarding camp, our senior Geographers were off studying the coastline, and our Ag Science girls spent some time combined with the TBHS Ag Science class, honing their skills “out in the field”.

Parents will have received an email from me recently, outlining our focus on improving attendance rates this year. Getting more girls to attend school more consistently is going to be a team effort between school and home, and we look forward to partnering with some families this year, in order to achieve that goal.

Many of the girls have made a very strong start to the school year and we encourage them to keep this up. A strong start is great, but continuing to maintain those high standards as the year progresses is where the real challenge lies, and we know that the girls are up to it.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions regarding your daughter at school. We are here to help and any communication from our parents is always welcome.

Here’s to a great 2023 at TGHS!

Nga mihi nui,
