FAREWELL TO 2019

TGHS —

As I write this article for our final newsletter of 2019 the first thing that comes to mind that I want to say to everyone is thank you.

Thank you for your continued support of our school. Thank you to those parents who have helped us out this year by coaching a sports team, helping out with transport, accompanying staff on field trips, supporting the girls on the side lines of sports fields, in audiences for performances or at practices or rehearsals. Your support and input is integral to the successful running of our school!

Our senior and junior prize giving were both special occasions. Congratulations to our Dux of 2019, Makayla Crozier and the Proxime Acessit, Brienna Wright. In the junior school, the top Academic Award for Year 9 went to Kelsey-Anne Davis and the Year 10 top Academic Award was shared by Hannah Prosser and Jasmine Uren. Congratulations to every single girl who worked hard this year and achieved to a level that they are proud of.

At the prize givings we also said farewell to Mrs Kathryn Baker (Head of Science) who is heading to Dunedin to live, and Mrs Anne Marie Pavletich (Head of Languages) who is retiring after giving great service to our school for 24 years. Thank you to you both; we wish you all the very best in these next stages of your lives. We also bid farewell to Mrs Alice Brice who stepped in and very competently taught Health and PE for the second half of the year. Thank you Mrs Brice!

Last week, one of our Year 13 students Tillie Hollyer was named in the NZ Track and Field team. We have watched Tillie work hard and achieve success in her running since she has been a Year 9 student. Tillie’s determination and drive to succeed is an inspiration to all and we wish her all the very best in the future. Congratulations Tillie!

Finally, I wish all of our TGHS whanau, a relaxing holiday break. May you find time to breathe out and reflect on the year of 2019. May you spend time with people that make you feel good, and may you get to that point where you are so relaxed that you completely forget what day of the week it is!

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou.

Happy holidays everyone,

Deb Hales
