Aoraki Secondary Schools' Tennis Championships
The Aoraki Secondary Schools' Tennis Championships were held on Thursday 17th February at the Mid Canterbury Tennis Centre in Ashburton.
With 14 girls’ teams entered from schools throughout the Aoraki region competition was of a high standard.
Our girls played some great tennis over the day with Ruby Hull and Jasmine Uren finishing tied in 3rd place. Annie Shearer and Grace Austin battled out the plate final against their fellow school mates Rebecca Kidd and Pippa Hawke with Annie and Grace coming out on top winning the plate championship.
Rowing
Our small but mighty squad of rowers have been busy over the last few months training hard and attending regattas in Twizel over numerous weekends.
The girls' results continue to improve at each regatta as they track towards the South Island Secondary Schools' Championships and the National Maadi Cup all being held in the next month.
At the recent South Island Junior regatta Brodie Young and Alana Berry-Rankin both made A finals in their single sculls with Heidi Bee also putting in some great times in the U17 single sculls event.
Alana Berry-Rankin competed at the National Club Championships in February as part of the Timaru Rowing Club squad earning an A final with her double sculls partner Mollie Phillips from Roncalli College. Congratulations to both girls on their efforts finishing in the top eight in NZ for their age group.
Winter Sports Sign Up
This week your daughter may have attended the winter sports sign up held over lunch times in the Gym. Information sheets have been provided to each student who attended to take home with approximate costs and other information for each sport. Once we have finalised teams, we will send emails home with the confirmed cost for the season. Fees must be paid in full by the due date for your daughter to play. Please also note that any outstanding fees from 2021 must be paid in full before your daughter can play her chosen sport in 2022.
If your daughter has indicated that she is interested in a sport, she has been emailed a google form to complete. On this form parent/caregivers are to give their permission. Please discuss this with your daughter.
Students can participate in multiple sports but please remember we do not want them to burn out, we want them to enjoy the season. If they do choose to play multiple sports, they must also remember their commitments to each of those sports.
