Year 13 Outdoor Education Ski Trip 2020

Yr13 Outdoor Education —

On Wednesday the 1st of July the Year 13 outdoor education class went to Round Hill Ski Area.

We left school at 8 am and got to the ski field at 10 am. We got our gear sized and fitted, then we had a lesson from 10:30 to 12 where we learned the basic skills of skiing and how to parallel turn. It was then time for lunch where everyone got hot food and drink to defrost after our lesson. When we went out after lunch it was really cloudy and hard to see up at the top of the T-Bar where some may or may not have gotten lost or gone the wrong way. Miss Grant also came with us and she was an exceptional skier. She skied passed us and we weren’t sure if she was a very skilled 12-year-old or if it was actually Miss Grant. We all came home safe and sound ready for another round on Thursday.

On Thursday it was another early start for some of us to head back up the mountain and the weather was beautiful. All of us took part in another lesson to improve and advance our skills plus learn some new tricks. Miss Kerridge came with us and she chose to snowboard which meant that she left with a rather wet bum at the end of the day. The weather was so clear that you could see Lake Tekapo from the top of the T-Bar. Everyone was a lot more confident the second with everyone coming out of their comfort zones and most of us managed to make it up the T-Bar.

Overall, this ski trip was very successful for all in the class as we all passed the assessment standard.

p.s. Molly may or may not have eaten yellow snow.

Stay tuned for more adventures that the year 13 outdoor ed class go on.
