TGHS Old Girls

Home Association of TGHS Old Girls —

The Home Association of Timaru High School Old Girls held a successful morning tea and AGM at the dining room of The House on 25 March.

Catering was provided by the ladies in the hostel kitchen, and we thank them for the lovely sandwiches, savouries and slices.

Pam Gibson welcomed a good attendance of local old girls as well as members from Christchurch, Ashburton and Waimate, commenting that this gathering was being held on the first anniversary of the NZ Level 4 ‘Covid 19’ Influenza pandemic lockdown that had affected the lives of us all.

Helen McCaul, (Christchurch Branch President, and President of The House Centennial Committee), spoke about the upcoming celebrations for which a pleasing number of registrations had been received, despite the travel and border restrictions currently in place.

Joy Slade and Pam Gibson have continued their work in archives, currently focusing on the Hostel Centennial.

Graphics teacher Georgia Guilford has undertaken the huge task of restoring the badly damaged 1939 model of the school and grounds. This model will surely be a focal point at the hostel centennial display of memorabilia. Thank you very much, Georgia, for the time and effort you have put into research and resourcing materials needed to recreate the school as it was in the 1930s and early 1940s.

The Committee for 2021 are:- President - Pam Gibson (Selbie); Sec/treas - Beryl Maglis (Westoby); Committee - Adrienne Wood (McGeorge), Bev Stonehouse (Pagan), Carol Boulton (Ormiston) and Robyn Cassidy (Still).

It is hoped to have a gathering at The House once a term, a mid-winter luncheon and possibly a gathering at Strathallan retirement village.

All old girls and staff are welcome to attend our functions.
